The Global Women’s Leadership Initiative (GWLI) is proud to present the Report of the first Women in Public Service Project (WPSP) Institute held outside of the United States at the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The WPSP at the Asian University for Women brought together fifty students from the Asian region in August, 2012, including 15 students from Afghanistan for a two-week long program to build an innovative incubator for women’s leadership in public service.

GWLI’s Director, Rangita de Silva de Alwis, led the Institute as a Fulbright Specialist. The students engaged in drafting model public policy initiatives to address some of the urgent challenges in their communities and countries. The highlight of the Institute were the policy briefs and action plans that the students created and will continue to work on as they move forward in their studies and in their careers back in their home countries. The student policy briefs included recommendations on combating child marriage, violence against women, food for education policies, and mentoring programs.

You can view the full report with the students’ action plans in the attached pdf.
