East European Studies Short-term Research Scholarships

The Wilson Center's Global Europe Program is now accepting applications for the EES Short-term Grant competition, which is open to academic experts and practitioners, including advanced graduate students, engaged in specialized research requiring access to Washington, DC and its research institutions. Grants are for one month and include residence at the Wilson Center. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, in order to be considered eligible for this grant opportunity. The deadline for this grant cycle is: March 1, 2014.

Can the EU Really Become a Global Player?

Mircea Geoana is a Senator, Chairman of the Joint Committee of the Romanian Senate and Chamber of Deputies regarding Romania’s Accession to the Schengen Area, and a prominent political figure in Romania. 

He  served  as  the  President  of  the  Romanian  Senate  between  December 2008 and November 2011 and Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, the largest political party in Romania, from 2005 to 2010. Between 2006 and 2009 he was also Vice-­‐president of the European Socialist Party.
