Soviet Education Policies for National Minorities: The Emergence and Institutionalization of Separate Schooling Structures for Russian and Titular Nationalities in the Soviet Republics
Oct 01, 2001
Nov 01, 2001

Project Summary

Examines ethnic fragmentation and national tensions in the former Soviet republics due to two parallel school structures -- one using titular nationalities’ language instruction, the other using Russian. Explores how the institutualized dichotomy of nationhood and nationality may have played in the collapse of the Soviet Union and how it continues to shape and structure the national question in successor states.
