Project Summary

The impact of Russia’s wartime food supply crisis on the city of Moscow and its population and the strategies adopted by local government agencies and local residents to overcome and adapt to the crisis. A social and urban history of Moscow during the Civil War. It shifts the focus of analysis from the central to the municipal level by examining the organization of food supply and distribution in Moscow and the interaction of municipal institutions of supply with the central government, trade unions, consumer cooperatives and other appropriate agencies.
