Project Summary

Soviet popular music and the way it contributed to the creation of a Soviet mass consciousness and to the cultivation of an ideal known as Soviet Man historical development of Soviet mass songs as well as the aesthetic nature of these songs organizational structure of the Soviet mass song industry, parallels between Soviet songs and popular music of other totalitarian societies of the 20th century, primarily Nazi Germany, as well as develoments in traditional Russian folk music and the relationship between this genre and the officially manufactured songs
