Latin American Program in the News: The Pan-American Post News Briefing

"The the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars has a new report on Chilean President Michelle Bachelet's proposed tax reforms in the country, which is expected to generate revenues of 3 percent of GDP, to be used to finance public spending on education."

The March 19, 2014 edition of The Pan-American Post's daily news briefing references the Latin American Program's new publication "The Political Economy of Progressive Tax Reform in Chile." The publication discuss the possible track Chile may be on to enact its most significant tax reform in decades. Bachelet's proposed reform, a cornerstone of her presidential campaign and the key to financing high-profile education reforms, is much broader and more progressive than any previous tax reforms from the last two decades.
