NKIDP Working Paper cited on Asia Times Online

Jan 05, 2012

NKIDP senior adviser and Ohio State University Associate Professor of History Mitchell Lerner’s working paper “Mostly Propaganda in Nature: Kim Il Sung, the Juche ideology, and the Second Korean War” was recently cited in an article on Asia Times Online. The article, authored by NKIDP research assistant Yong Kwon, highlights the relevance of North Korea’s military provocations in 1968 for understanding the prospects for North Korea in the post-Kim Jong Il era.

Prof. Lerner’s Working Paper incorporated archival documents acquired by NKIDP that suggest that Pyongyang’s provocations were intended to convince the North Korean public of threats to the DPRK’s national security and of the need to make sacrifices to safeguard the sovereignty of the state.
