Peter J. Beshar, Earl Stafford Nominated to Wilson Center Board of Trustees

“Peter Beshar and Earl Stafford both have led distinguished careers in private industry and the public sector,” said Jane Harman, Director, President, and CEO of the Wilson Center. “They join us with the departure of Chuck Cobb and Sander Gerber, two leaders on our investment policy committee whose intellectual curiosity and financial acumen have been invaluable. We are hopeful that Sander and Chuck will stay engaged with us.”

WASHINGTON – The Wilson Center welcomes the White House’s nomination of Peter J. Beshar and Early Stafford to the Wilson Center’s Board of Trustees.

We are hopeful that Sander and Chuck will stay engaged with us.”

Peter J. Beshar is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Marsh & McLennan Companies, a position he has held since 2004. He was a litigation partner and Co-Chair of the Securities Litigation Department during his time at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP from 1995 to 2004. Mr. Beshar served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York in 1994. He served as Special Assistant to Secretary of State Cyrus Vance during the U.N.’s peace negotiations on the former Yugoslavia from 1992 to 1993. He also served as a clerk for Judge Vincent Broderick of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1989 to 1990. Mr. Beshar received a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Earl W. Stafford is Chairman, CEO, and founder of The Stafford Foundation, positions he has held since 2002. He is also CEO of The Wentworth Group, LLC. In 1988, he founded a training information technology company, Universal Systems and Technology, Inc. (UNITECH), and was its Chairman and CEO until 2009. Mr. Stafford enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1967 and retired as a Captain in 1987. Mr. Stafford served as Assistant Air Force Liaison Officer to the Federal Aviation Administration from 1982 to 1985. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Horatio Alger Association, a member of the Board of Governors of the Wesley Theological Seminary, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Morehouse College. Mr. Stafford has been a Member of the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities since 2012. Mr. Stafford received a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University.
