As oppression grew more rife in Nazi Germany, Jewish Germans began a search for a refuge from the pending terror. Options were few and only Shanghai would admit refugees without a visa. The experience of this desperate Shanghai Jewish community is revealed in the novel Shanghai Legacy which relates that experience to the intergenerational struggle of Shanghai survivors and their children.
