Carolyn Hannan, United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women; Felicity Hill, United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM); Donald Steinberg, U.S. Department of State and Swanee Hunt, Harvard University and Hunt Alternatives explored efforts to strengthen the role of women in conflict prevention and examined recommendations, guidelines, and models that can assist and encourage better integration of women. Additional speakers provided case studies from Kashmir, Nigeria, El Salvador, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Rwanda to highlight the role of women, specifically: Women During Wartime: Organizing for Peace; Women's Contributions to Demobilization and Security Reform; and Women in Post Conflict Situations: Building Capacity in the Peacebuilding Process.
