Full Biography

Yeganeh Torbati joined The Washington Post in 2020, and is an enterprise reporter on The Post's Financial desk. In prior roles at ProPublica and Reuters, Torbati covered federal agencies, including the State Department, USAID, the Department of Homeland Security and the Pentagon. She also covered Iran for Reuters. Her narrative feature about a library on the U.S.-Canada border that played host to reunions of families separated by the Trump administration's travel ban was adapted for a segment on "This American Life." Torbati's work has shed light on the federal government's scramble to buy medical equipment during the coronavirus pandemic, the role of Vice President Pence's office in rerouting foreign aid to favored Christian groups, and the $95 billion business empire controlled by Iran's supreme leader.
