Harman: SOTU Speaks Softly on Administration's Foreign Policy Achievements

President Barack Obama “has proven himself to be a very strong foreign policy president,” whose accomplishments seemingly speak for themselves, said Jane Harman, director, president, and CEO of The Wilson Center. Interviewed Wednesday on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Harman noted that foreign policy accounted for only about seven minutes of the president’s hour-long, State of the Union address, with its main focus on the domestic economy. Yet the administration’s greatest strides so far appear to be on the national security front, with the president mentioning in his congressional address the past year’s takedown of Osama bin Laden and the conclusion of the war in Iraq, as two chief milestones.
