Ukraine’s government and civil society are in the midst of an ambitious reform effort. The country's lead reformer, Dmytro Shymkiv, provides a progress report in this edition of Wilson Center NOW.


Dmytro Shymkiv is Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine. His portfolio includes implementation of administrative, social and economic reforms. He also chairs the Executive Reforms Committee of the National Reforms Council which is an advisory body to the President. The Committee’s main function is to prepare proposals for strategic planning of reforms, coordination and monitoring of their implementation. Additionally, Mr. Shymkiv is responsible for management, reorganization and implementation of e-governance. Previously, he was a technology entrepreneur, innovator, and respected professional with 20 years of leadership experience in the IT industry across Ukraine, Europe and the US. As General Manager of Microsoft Ukraine, he successfully led the company from recession to new growth across all product groups and customer segments. TOP 100, named him Ukraine’s best CEO in 2012.

John Milewski is the executive producer and managing editor of Wilson Center NOW and also serves as director of Wilson Center ON DEMAND digital programming. Previously he served as host and producer of Dialogue at the Wilson Center and Close Up on C-SPAN. He also teaches a course on politics and media for Penn State’s Washington Program.
