Wilson Center Mourns Passing of Senator Robert Dole

Senator Bob Dole

The Wilson Center is saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Robert Dole. From his service in World War 2 through his 36-year career in Congress, including his run for President in 1996, Senator Dole never failed to answer his call to duty in service to his country. His reputation on Capitol Hill was one of a leader who was not afraid of compromise and his influence shaped domestic and foreign policy decisions which have become part of the fabric of the global society.

His work advocating for veterans affairs highlighted his years after Congress. The Wilson Center worked numerous times with the Bipartisan Policy Center, an organization Senator Dole founded in 2007 with other Senate Majority Leaders.

Everyone at The Wilson Center sends their condolences to Senator Dole’s wife, Senator Elizabeth Dole and their extended families.
