The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars expresses condolences on the passing of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. As the first woman to serve on the US Supreme Court, Justice O'Connor was a trailblazer in the judiciary, and a symbol of progress in American history. Justice O’Connor’s commitment to the rule of law and her balanced approach to justice have left an indelible mark on the Supreme Court, and the nation. 

Her dedication to nurturing an informed and engaged citizenry resonates strongly with the Wilson Center’s mission. She was a fervent advocate for civic learning and engagement, believing in the power of education to strengthen democracy and promote understanding.
