Abel Abate Demissie

Abel Abate Demissie is an associate fellow of the Africa Programme and a researcher focusing on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa region.

Abel worked as a political advisor for the British Embassy in Addis Ababa from 2015-2019, and as a senior researcher and latterly programme head at the government-run think tank the Ethiopian Foreign Relations and Strategic Studies Institute between 2012-2015.

Abel has extensive experience of providing analysis and high-level policy briefings to a wide range of organizations and government departments, and has been published widely across international media outlets and in academic literature.

Since March 2019 Abel has been working for the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy.
