The Correspondence of Literary Text and Musical Phraseology in Dmitri Shostakovich’s Opera The Nose and Nikolai Gogol’s Fantastic Tale

Project Summary

Deals with the problem of literary text adaptation to music in the context of literary and historic processes. Conducts a comparative analysis of: 1) the literary source text and corresponding musical text; 2) literary and musical phraseology; and 3) the correlations of artistic devices and aesthetic values in the source text and in its musical adaptation that reflect artistic historical process.
