    Full Biography

    Captain Stephen White assumed the duties of Sector Commander Juneau Alaska on 4 May, 2018.  The Command consists of 300 active duty, reserve, auxiliary, and civilian members with ten field commands and detachments throughout Southeast Alaska.  He is responsible for overseeing a wide array of Coast Guard missions in Southeast Alaska, including search and rescue, marine safety, marine environmental protection, ports and waterways security, aids to navigation, and maritime law enforcement.

    Captain White reported to Sector Juneau after serving as the Seventeenth District Chief of Enforcement, where he oversaw Coast Guard domestic and international law enforcement activities and maritime security missions in the North Pacific Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Bering Sea.  His other shore assignments include service as the Chief of International Planning at Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area Command in Portsmouth, Virginia; CG Liaison Officer to U.S. Fleet Forces Command and U.S. Joint Forces Command; Response Chief of Marine Safety Unit Valdez, Alaska; Executive Officer of Patrol Forces South West Asia, Bahrain; and Chief of Operations and Training at WLB (Buoy Tender) Project Resident Office in Marinette, Wisconsin.

    Captain White has served aboard several Coast Guard Cutters to include Commanding Officer of the USCGC ALEX HALEY in Kodiak, Alaska; Commanding Officer of USCGC ANACAPA in Petersburg, Alaska; Executive Officer of USCGC RELIANCE in Kittery, Maine; Operations Officer of USCGC ACUSHNET in Ketchikan, Alaska; and as a Deck Watch Officer on USCGC FIREBUSH in Kodiak, Alaska.

    Captain White is from Eagle, Idaho. He attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Management.  In 2009, he attended school at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.  In 2016, he completed an Executive Fellowship with the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California.

    His personal awards include three Meritorious Service Medal, four Coast Guard Commendation Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the 9/11 Medal, the Volunteer Service Medal, and various other personal, campaign and unit awards.
