Dr. Carol Cartwright became president of Kent State University, Ohio's second-largest public university, in 1991. Previously, she was vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of California at Davis and dean for undergraduate programs and vice provost of The Pennsylvania State University.Dr. Cartwright chaired the board of directors of the American Association for Higher Education and served on the boards of the American Council on Education and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. She chairs the National Collegiate Athletic Association Executive Committee and serves on the national board of the First Ladies' Library, the executive board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the American Council on Education Commission on Women in Higher Education and the National Public Radio board of directors.
