Project Summary
Studies religious consciousness as a central part of the study of popular religion. Grounds the work in documentary evidence and manuscripts of of popular theology, offering insights into how popular Orthodoxy represented itself, forms of popular Christian ethics, an individual’s view, sources of formulation of religious views, and the importance of book culture on an individual’s world-view. Concentrates on the 18th-20th centuries.
