Full Biography

Gil Joseph is the Farnam Professor of History and International Studies at Yale University and was the President of the Latin American Studies Association during its Fiftieth Anniversary celebration in 2016. He received his Ph.D from Yale in 1978, and before returning to New Haven in 1993 to head up Yale's Latin American Studies  program, taught for 15 years the the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He is the co-author (with Jurgen Buchenau) of Mexico's Once and Future Revolution: Social Upheaval and the Challenge of Rule since the Nineteenth Century (Duke, 2013), the co-editor (with Greg Grandin) of A Century of Revolution: Insurgent and Counterinsurgent Violence during Latin America's Long Cold War  (Duke, 2010), and the author of  "Border Crossings and the Remaking of Latin American Cold War Studies," Cold War History (2019).
