"Nationalism in the Arab Middle East"
Project Summary
This project will trace the origins and evolution of nationalism in the Arab Middle East from the mid-nineteenth century through the present day. Because it will be the first comprehensive and scholarly study on this subject written in English in three decade, it will not only update previous accounts from the standpoint of recent events, it will take advantage of new methodological strategies for the study of nationalism. Furthermore, by placing the study of nationalism in the region within a comparative framework, this project will contribute not only to Middle East studies, but to nationalist studies in general.
