Full Biography

Janine Ferretti is Chief of the Environmental and Social Safeguards Unit at the Inter-American Development Bank. She joined the Inter-American Development Bank in 2003 after she completed her term as Executive Director of the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC). During the ten years she worked at the CEC, she carried out initiatives related to trade and environment, biodiversity conservation, health and environment, enforcement of environmental law, public access to environmental information, and capacity building. She also oversaw independent fact-findings in response to public complaints related to non-enforcement of environmental laws. Before joining the CEC, She was Executive Director of Pollution Probe, a Canadian NGO, worked with the Environmental Liaison Centre International (ELCI) in Nairobi, Kenya, and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Bonn, Germany. She holds an M.E.S. in Environmental Policy from Canada’s York University and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
