A New Kind of Newspaper: The Origins and Development of a Soviet Institution, 1921-1932

Project Summary

Study of the Soviet press, analyzing the ideological, societal and institutional influences on the press’s development and the changing composition and character of the professional and non-professional press corps and of the press workers’ labor association. Reconceives of a broader characterization of the Soviet newspaper, as she finds it is more than a propaganda tool. Attempts to reclaim the paper’s social significance.
