    Full Biography

    In December 2008, Dr. Ming Yang joined the Global Environment Facility (GEF) of the World Bank Group as Senior Environment Economist and Senior Program Manager. Currently, working as Senior Climate Change Specialist, he manages GEF’s climate change mitigation related energy efficiency, renewable energy, urban transport, and part of sustainable cities projects in Eastern Europe, Asia, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

    Prior to joining the GEF, Ming worked for four years as Energy and Environment Economist, and Energy Technology Economist at the International Energy Agency (IEA) of the OECD in Paris. Before that, he had worked in the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as Energy Adviser and Climate Change Specialist for two years.

    In 2015, with the approval from the board of the International Fund for China’s Environment (IFCE), Dr. Ming Yang became a board director of the IFCE. Working as a volunteer, he provides strategic vision and guidance for the development of the IFCE and writes papers for the IFCE that are related to China’s environment.

    Ming holds Ph.D. in energy engineering, economics and planning from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok jointly with l'Institut d'Economie et de Politique de l'Energie (IEPE), Université des Sciences Sociales, Grenoble, France. Over the past 20 years, Ming has published six books and more than 50 journal articles and book chapters, including Closing the Gap – GEF Experience in Global Energy Efficiency (2013) and Energy Efficiency: Benefits for Environment and Society (2015).
