Full Biography

Robert L. Harris, Jr. is Professor Emeritus of African American History, American Studies, and Public Affairs, as well as Vice Provost for Diversity and Faculty Development Emeritus from Cornell University. He received his undergraduate degree and master’s degree with honors from Roosevelt University and his Ph.D. degree from Northwestern University.  He has published The Columbia Guide to African American History Since 1939, co-edited with Rosalyn Terborg-Penn, 2006; “The Changing Contours of African American History during the Twentieth Century,” in A Century of American Historiography, edited by James M. Banner, Jr. Boston: Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2010, pp. 52-65, and Reflections on Building the Martin Luther King National Memorial in Washington, D.C.” The Journal of African American History, 103:3 (Summer, 2018), pp. 402-417.
