Willie G. Nunn

Willie G. Nunn is the Regional Administrator for FEMA Region 10. Mr. Nunn leads and coordinates all activities in support of FEMA’s mission with Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, as well as the 271 federally recognized tribes within the region.  

Previously, Mr. Nunn served as a Type 1 Federal Coordinating Officer (FCO) and was a member of the Field Leadership Cadre in the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA. As an FCO, Mr. Nunn served as the representative of the President of the United States, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and the FEMA Administrator during major disaster and emergency declarations. In this executive leadership and coordination role, he led response and recovery disaster operations.

Since joining FEMA in June 2007, Mr. Nunn has effectively managed disasters in all four states in Region 10 plus nine states and two territories across the country. He served as Assistant Director of FEMA Office of Federal Disaster Coordination from March 2013 to June 2015, where he supervised and mentored FCOs and Federal Disaster Recovery Coordinators in Regions 9 and 10; served as the Lead Field Coordinator for FEMA Region 10 from June 2015 to June 2018; and served as a Type 1 FCO Field Leader Supervisor for FEMA Regions 2, 8, 9, and 10 from July 2018 to February 2022. He also served as Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for Insurance in FEMA’s Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration in 2015 and served as Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for Field Operations Directorate and as Senior Advisor for the Operations Coordination Division in 2020. Mr. Nunn earned his Type 1 FCO certification in November 2014.

Prior to joining FEMA, Mr. Nunn was on active duty for over 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. His assignments included two command tours: Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) Test Squadron in Seattle, Washington and Joint Surveillance and Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) Airborne Command and Control Squadron at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. During two combat tours, he led more than 300 Air Force and Army personnel in Operations Enduring Freedom in 2002 in Afghanistan and Iraqi Freedom in 2003 in Iraq. As a Master Air Battle Manager, he exceeded 2,900 flight hours on board AWACS and JSTARS with 201 flight hours in combat. He led program management of the $8 billion RQ-4 Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and U-2 Dragon Lady surveillance programs.

Mr. Nunn earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. He completed the Senior Managers in Government and Crisis Leadership courses at Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. He and his wife Sylvia have three children: Sacha, Adam and Alene.
