SEGURIDAD DEMOCRÁTICA: DE LAS PROPUESTAS A LA IMPLEMENTACIÓN DE POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS

As part of a series of activities supported by the Andean Development Corporation (Corporación Andina de Fomento, CAF) the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Latin American Program and the Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS) of Argentina sponsored a conference in Buenos Aires on citizen security in the Southern Cone. Experts with current or past experience in the implementation of citizen security policies discussed the numerous challenges of and obstacles to the protection of citizen security, as well as innovative approaches adopted at the local level.  Participants included Milton Romani, former National Drug Secretary of Uruguay; Claudio Orrego, mayor of Peñalolén, Santiago, Chile; Ileana Arduino, sub secretary with the judiciary and prosecutors from the Ministry of National Security of Argentina; Luiz Eduardo Soares, ex-National Secretary of Public Security of Brazil, former Coordinator of Security, Justice and Citizenship of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
