Joint Session: Congress and Wilson Center Experts

The Wilson Center and the Library of Congress partnered to host a reception for members of Congress before the President’s State of the Union Address on February 4.

The annual event in the Library’s Member’s Room is a chance for Wilson Center and the Library’s experts to share their knowledge of current events and foreign policy with a bipartisan group of Congressional members. Wilson program directors, including the Mexico Institute’s Duncan Wood and the Latin American Program’s Cynthia Arnson chatted with more than 40 congressional members attending.

This year's attendees also heard from Angela Evans, dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas and were able to tour the Library’s current exhibit on Rosa Parks, “In Her Own Words.” The event helps fulfill the Wilson Center’s core mission to connect academia and public policy.

The Wilson Center is the nation’s official presidential memorial to President Woodrow Wilson, who decided to reinstate the practice of delivering the State of the Union as an in person speech on Dec. 2, 1913.
