Today, May 3rd marks UNESCO World Press Freedom Day, a day of support for media to which are targets for the restraint, or abolition, of press freedom. It is also a day of remembrance for those journalists who have lost their lives in the pursuit of a story. The Wilson Center celebrates the hard work of the press around the world, including Philippines journalist Maria Ressa, this year’s recipient of the 2021 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.
The Center also celebrates this year’s theme, “Information as a Public Good,” which is of paramount importance to the Center and its mission to bridge the gap between the world of ideas and the world of policy.
