Overview

The Africa Program and the Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity are pleased to invite you to a discussion with Louise Mushikiwabo and Jack Kramer, co-authors of Rwanda Means the Universe. The narrative relates the journey of a Rwandan woman working as a translator in Washington DC who loses her family in a conspiracy meticulously planned by the Rwandan state. Prompted by a letter from her brother, she explores her past and the roots of the 1995 crime that killed her family and ravaged her homeland.

Louise Mushikiwabo was born and raised in Kigali and educated at the National University of Rwanda. After immigrating to the United States in 1986, she earned a second degree from the University of Delaware. She is an active public speaker on Rwanda-related issues, and works as a public relations consultant in Washington, D.C.

Jack Kramer, a reporter and ex-marine, has covered conflicts around the world. The author of a memoir, Travels with the Celestial Dog, Kramer has also authored articles published in The New York Review of Books, The Nation, The Washington Post, Business Week, Time, and The Wall Street Journal.
