Overview

Russia’s hybrid war on the West has disrupted politics in the United States and throughout Europe. Its effects are most visible in the "lands in between," the vulnerable countries that lie between Russia and the European Union and are subject to competing geopolitical influences. In the context of his latest book The Lands in Between, Mitchell Orenstein discussed how geopolitical conflict in this region has polarized politics into pro-Western and pro-Russian camps, how some political leaders are benefiting from this divide, and what implications this may have for the West.
