The Soviet Presence in Syria
Project Summary
Using insight from cognitive and factional schools of thought, probes the Soviet-Syrian relations over the 1955-85 period. Questions whether the relationship provided influence for the Soviets, giving the Syrians a certain degree of influence over Soviet behavior in the Middle East and whether the relationship is modulated by factional politics within the Soviet and Syrian elites, and within the Syrian communist party.
