    Full Biography

    Anatoly I. Antonov is the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States of America. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1978 and has held various positions within the Ministry and its foreign missions, including Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Director of the Department of Security and Disarmament of the Ministry, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation responsible for issues of military and political security.

    On August 21, 2017, President Vladimir Putin issued an Executive Order appointing Anatoly I. Antonov Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and, concurrently, Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. Amb. Antonov holds a diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, assigned in July 2017. He is an actual state councilor of the Russian Federation, 1 class, and is decorated with the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland”, 4th class, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of Honor (twice), the Order “For Military Merit”, the Order of Friendship, as well as a number of medals.

    He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and holds a PhD in political science.
