Expert Bio

Dr. Jill Jermano is a professorial lecturer with the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where she teaches a graduate course on transnational security and illicit finance for the Security Policy Studies program. She also serves on the adjunct faculty at Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies, the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public and International Affairs, and American University’s School of International Service. Over the past twenty years, she has developed and taught courses on international security, economic statecraft, international relations theory, intelligence analysis, and U.S. foreign policy. 

Dr. Jermano served as a member of the federal Senior Executive Service in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OIA) at the U.S. Department of the Treasury from 2009-2021, leading proliferation finance analysis in support of Treasury policies and programs and overseeing OIA’s analytic tradecraft program. During 2016-2017, she was the Treasury Department Chair at the National War College, where she taught courses in the National Security Strategy curriculum. Dr. Jermano joined Treasury/OIA in 2005 as an intelligence analyst. She is a recipient of the Treasury Department Exceptional Service Award, the National Intelligence Superior Service Medal, and the Department of Defense Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award. 

Prior to federal service, Dr. Jermano was a senior researcher at the Homeland Security Institute federally funded research and development center, where she conducted studies for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She also worked for sixteen years in the U.S. defense industry as a manager and intelligence analyst, specializing in nonproliferation and arms control. 

She holds a Doctorate and a Master of Philosophy in political science from the George Washington University, a Master of Public Management in national security policy from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Affairs, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Illinois.
