Pablo Vázquez

Pablo Vázquez has been Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City since September 9, 2023. Previously, he held the position of Undersecretary of Citizen Participation and Crime Prevention, where he promoted the implementation of violence prevention and reduction programs like Alto al Fuego y Reconecta con la Paz (Cease Fire and Reconnect With Peace.

Prior to this role, he held various positions in the Federal Government, such as Head of the Violence and Crime Prevention Unit of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection for the Government of Mexico, General Director of Crime Prevention and Community Services for the Attorney General's Office, and Director of Research and Strategies for Social Prevention of the Undersecretary of Prevention and Citizen Participation in the Ministry of the Interior, during which he was responsible for the design of the crime prevention chapter of the National Security Strategy. He was also in charge of the REP3NSAR program for the prevention of violence and crime through the comprehensive care of at-risk youth. He was operational coordinator of the National Prevention Program both in Mexico City (Col. Morelos, Iztapalapa and GAM), and in the state of Michoacán within the framework of the  "Plan Michoacán - Together We Will Achieve It" (Morel Uruapan, Apatzingán and Lázaro Cárdenas). He has also promoted various other initiatives in prevention and social reintegration.

Before joining public service, Vázquez worked to prevent money laundering,  and identify and manage operational risks and intelligence in the private sector.

Vázquez has a degree in International Relations from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico, a Master in Criminal Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a specialization in organized crime in Sicily and Macedonia.

Vázquez has participated as a guest teacher in the Master's Degree in Criminology and Criminal Policy at the National Institute of Criminal Sciences (INACIPE) and was the founder and first editor of a blog specializing in public security, “Prevention and Punishment” for Nexos magazine.
