JUNE 2007 - Dr. Jennifer Turner testified at the Senate on the environmental impact of China's energy use.
On Thursday, June 14 at 3:30 pm, CEF's director Dr. Jennifer L. Turner testified in room 385 of the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill at the intersection of Delaware and Constitution Avenues, SE. This was panel six of the Hearing on China's Energy Consumption and Opportunities for U.S.-China Cooperation to Address the Effects of China's Energy Use, entitled "The Environmental Consequences for China, the United States, and the World of China's Energy Consumption."
Dr. Turner's testimony focused on 4 key points: (1) China's Domestic and Transboundary Air Pollution; (2) Main Drivers of Air Pollution Problems; (3) Growing Economic and Health Costs from Coal Burning; and (4) Challenges and Opportunities of China's Continued Coal Dependence and Development of Alternative Energy Sources.
