There are about fifty of them. They come from integrated, non-integrated, and mixed army units, all from the 8th military region. The objective of their meeting, the first of its kind, is to discuss and to find solutions to the problems and tensions that divide the FARDC troops (Congolese army) in North Kivu, reports RadioOkapi.net.

This meeting started on Monday in the town of Goma and will last four days. Called a "Training Retreat," it was organized by the international organization "Initiative pour un Leadership Collaboratif et la Cohésion de l'Etat" (ILCCE) (*) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to Michel Nourredine Kassa, one of the overseers of this organization, it is first about clearing away any form of mistrust, legitimate or not, that exists between these different officers of the armed forces of the DRC. Eventually, those present will succeed in collaborating and speaking the same language. The commander of the 8th military region, Colonel Mayala, who participates in these works, acknowledged the existence of tensions, of divisions along with mistrust within several FARDC troops. And for Michel Kassa, it's this climate that is the root cause of conflicts and of the observed insecurity in North Kivu.

At the opening, several participants voiced their wishes that the dialogue would take place with frankness so that all the subjects be addressed.
