After the European Court of Justice struck down the Safe Harbor data transfer agreement, there was concern about its effect on U.S. companies operating in the European Union. The U.S. and EU are also in the midst of protracted negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement. While seeking ever deeper cooperation with one another, the U.S. and EU each face internal challenges – the refugee crisis and instability in neighboring countries in the EU; an upcoming presidential election and ongoing involvement in the Middle East in the U.S.
