Full Biography

Dr. Andrew Jackson, Andrew Jackson’sinterest in Antarctic geopolitics stems from a long career in the Australian Antarctic Division as a policy specialist. In that role he advised on policy options, including during the negotiation of the Madrid Protocol and subsequent developments in polar law. He regularly participated in Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings, meetings of experts and related forums. He has visited Antarctica by sea and by air on many occasions including as an expedition leader, an inspector under the Antarctic Treaty and lecturer on tourist visits. He is currently a post-doctoral research fellow at IMAS. Dr. Jackson encourages appreciation of the importance of the region’s natural and political environment, and recently published a history of the Madrid Protocol.
