Annie Tracy Samuel is an assistant professor of history at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and president of the Southeast Regional Middle East and Islamic Studies Society.

Full Biography

Annie Tracy Samuel is a scholar of modern Middle Eastern history and politics focusing on post-revolutionary Iran, security and military affairs, the construction of historical and national narratives, and U.S. foreign policy in the region. She is currently an assistant professor of history at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and president of the Southeast Regional Middle East and Islamic Studies Society and previously served as a research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Dr. Tracy Samuel’s book, The Unfinished History of the Iran-Iraq War: Faith, Firepower, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was published by Cambridge University Press in October 2021. Her other publications include journal articles in International Security and Diplomatic History and book chapters in edited volumes published by Georgetown and Routledge, and her commentary on current events has appeared on American Public Television, Lawfare, and The Hill.
