Francisco Sagasti

President Sagasti holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru. He obtained his Master’s degree (MSc) in Industrial Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, and his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Operational Research and Social Systems Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania. In Peru, he has been the Founder and Executive Director at GRADE; advisor to the Ministers of Industry, Foreign Affairs, and Education; and advisor to the President of the Council of Ministers and the National Planning Institute.

He has served as a professor at the Pacifico Business School from the Universidad del Pacífico and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). He has been a member of the National Council of Science and Technology; principal investigator emeritus of the Foro Nacional Internacional; and strategy consultant to international organizations, government agencies, and private entities.

He has been the President of the Board of Directors of the Science and Technology Program (FINCyT/InnóvatePerú); a member of the Board of Governors of the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), a member of the International Advisory Council of the Lemelson Foundation; and a member of the Board of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED).

Additionally, Fransisco Sagasti was the Director of the Agenda Perú Program at Foro Nacional Internacional; Chief of the Strategic Planning Division at the World Bank; and President of the United Nations Advisory Committee on Science and Technology for Development. He was a visiting professor at the IE Business School in Madrid, Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and Universidad para la Paz in Costa Rica.

He has published more than 25 books and he has authored more than 150 academic papers.

Ingeniero Industrial graduado en la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (Lima, Perú), obtuvo su Maestría (MSC) en Ingeniería Industrial en la Pennsylvania State University, y su doctorado (PhD) en Investigación Operacional y Ciencias de Sistemas Sociales en la Universidad de Pennsylvania.  En el Perú, ha sido fundador y Director Ejecutivo en GRADE; asesor de los ministros de Industria, Relaciones Exteriores y Educación, de la Presidencia del Consejo de Ministros; y del Instituto Nacional de Planificación.

Francisco Sagasti se desempeñó como profesor del Pacífico Business School de la Universidad del Pacífico y en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú; miembro del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología; investigador principal emérito de Foro Nacional Internacional; y asesor de organismos internacionales; agencias gubernamentales y entidades privadas en temas estratégicos. 

Además, ha sido Presidente del Consejo Directivo del Programa de Ciencia y Tecnología (FINCyT/InnóvatePerú) en la Presidencia del Consejo de Ministros; miembro del Consejo de Gobernadores del Centro Internacional  de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo en Canadá; miembro del Consejo Consultivo de la Fundación Lemelson, miembro del Directorio del International Institute for Environment and Development.

Fue Director del programa Agenda Perú en Foro Nacional/Internacional, jefe de Planeamiento Estratégico del Banco Mundial y Presidente del Consejo Consultivo de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo en las Naciones Unidas; profesor visitante del Instituto de Empresas en Madrid, de la Escuela de Negocios Wharton de la Universidad de Pennsylvania; y de la Universidad para la Paz en Costa Rica.

Ha publicado más de 25 libros y más de 150 artículos académicos.
