Full Biography

Leopoldo Maldonado is Regional Director of the Office for Mexico and Central America of Article 19. Previously, he was Deputy Regional Director of Article 19. From 2008 to 2013 he worked at the Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center. He has a Master in Human Rights and a degree in Law from la Universidad Iberoamericana. He has specialized in various subjects related to the defense of human rights such as freedom of expression, civil rights, access to justice for individuals and groups in vulnerable situations due to criminal proceedings, among others. As part of his work at Article 19, he has focused on the registration, documentation, analysis, accompaniment and defense of journalists attacked for their work. Thus, he has also participated in strategic litigation on issues relevant to the guarantee of freedom of assembly, access to information, the right to information, and freedom of expression on the internet.
