    Full Biography

    Sonay Kanber is the National Program Officer at ILO’s Ankara office. She joined the ILO team in May 2018 as the National Program Officer. She is currently managing a project titled "Promoting Decent Work Opportunities for non-Syrian Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Turkey”. The project aims to increase integration of non-Syrian refugees into the  Turkish labour market and thus improve their resilience.

    Previously, Sonay was a senior Expert of EU Affairs at the Turkish Ministry for EU Affairs. Her most recent area of expertise has been project management, migration, refugees and civil society. Sonay’s previous portfolios included Ministry’s communications and social media coordination, Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary and Advisor to the Minister on European Integration, transatlantic relations, Germany and Turkish immigration to Europe.

    Sonay graduated from the Middle East Technical University (Ankara) with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations. She earned her first Master’s degree in German and European Studies from Georgetown University (Washington, DC) where she was a Fulbright scholar. Her second Master’s degree is from the Harvard Kennedy School (Cambridge) in Public Administration and Management. She is fluent in Turkish, German and English.
