CANCELED The Story of Plastic: Film Screening for the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital

Kids East Java Plastic

This film screening has been cancelled.

The Wilson Center's China Environment Forum and the Environmental Change and Security Program invite you to a screening of a new documentary for the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital. The Story of Plastic, is a hard-hitting documentary directed by Deia Schlosberg and produced by The Story of Stuff Project that delves deep into the drivers behind the global plastic pollution crisis. While most media coverage focuses on the disposal of plastic waste, this film looks at the full cradle-to-grave environmental footprint of plastic. Striking footage shot over three continents illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash; rivers and seas clogged with waste; and skies choked with the poisonous exhaust from plastic production and recycling processes. Original animations and interviews with experts and activists reveal the serious consequences of the flood of plastic smothering ecosystems and poisoning communities, as well as the global movement rising up in response.

Following the film China Environment Forum Director Jennifer Turner will host Carroll Muffett (President for the Center for International Environmental Law) to stimulate a conversation on policy, law, and consumer behavior that can help break the cycle of plastic waste.

There is no RSVP for this event. Seating is on a first-come basis.
