Overview
Environmental pressures, compounded by a rapidly changing climate, are increasingly imperiling global stability and economic prosperity. For decades, Monica Medina, the Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, has been a leading voice on these issues, from her time on Capitol Hill to her senior role at the State Department, where she also serves as the US Special Envoy for Biodiversity and Water Resources. On June 1, Medina will take on a new leadership role as President and CEO of the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Polar Institute
Since its inception in 2017, the Polar Institute has become a premier forum for discussion and policy analysis of Arctic and Antarctic issues, and is known in Washington, DC and elsewhere as the Arctic Public Square. The Institute holistically studies the central policy issues facing these regions—with an emphasis on Arctic governance, climate change, economic development, scientific research, security, and Indigenous communities—and communicates trusted analysis to policymakers and other stakeholders.
