Dr. Frédéric Bozo will discuss France's role in ending the Cold War, with special emphasis on François Mitterand's views toward Europe's emancipation from communism, the unification of Germany, and the disintegration of the USSR. Dr. Bozo's book, newly published in France and soon to be translated into English, seeks to shed light on the scholarly debate regarding France's role at the end of the Cold War: did Paris seek to resist changes in Europe, or was it an eager participant, playing a significant role in the transition from the Europe of Yalta to the one of Maastricht? In Mitterrand, the End of the Cold War and German Unification: From Yalta to Maastricht, Dr. Bozo pieces together a framework for understanding Mitterand's choices as well as French politics in this decisive period.
