Conference: "New Perspectives on Détente" (Jerusalem, December 2005)

An international conference on "New Perspectives on Détente" will take place on December 19-21, 2005, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Under the auspices of, and sponsored by, the Leonard Davis institute for International Relations, and assisted by the George L. Mosse Program in history, the conference includes panels on the origins, conduct, and consequences of detente; the "View from the Middle East"; and a roundtable of participating scholars on "new directions in international history."

The conference seeks to provide a forum for scholars from different parts of the world to explore changing perspectives on détente in light of recent archival revelations and historiographical trends. It also hopes to better the prospects of integrating the study of Middle Eastern developments during the early 1970s into the larger global puzzle.
