The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars mourns the death of Joseph H. Flom, 87, who served as the Center's Board of Trustees chairman from 1994 to 2000.

Flom was a Wall Street attorney and the last living named partner of the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. While many remember him as an outstanding business attorney, he was also a smart, savvy, and compassionate adviser and mentor to many throughout his life, as well as a lifelong philanthropist.

"Joe Flom was a great friend and supporter of the Wilson Center," said current Board Chairman Joseph Gildenhorn. "While he was chairman, he helped secure the Reagan Building as the permanent home of the Wilson Center and his ongoing support helped the Center to flourish. He will be remembered as a go-getter and a generous soul.

"Many visitors to the Center attend events in our 6th floor auditorium, which has long been called the Joseph H. and Claire Flom Auditorium in honor of Joe and his deceased wife Claire, both of whom did so much for the Woodrow Wilson Center. We will miss him greatly, and extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Judi, his children, and his grandchildren."
