The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is accepting applications for qualified students (advanced undergraduate or graduate) interested in being a part-time (20-25 hours/week), in-person or hybrid Staff Assistant intern for the Scholars and Academic Relations office.

The Wilson Center is a non-partisan research institution that has stood as the living memorial to President Woodrow Wilson since 1968. While the Wilson Center has over 20 regional or subject-specific programs that connect Washington to the world, the Scholars and Academic Relations office was the first one created, due to the Wilson Center’s mission and ongoing commitment to bring scholars from all over the world to DC to generate independent research on public policy.

Daily tasks for this internship vary, so flexibility and a willingness to learn are important qualities for intern applicants.

Tasks include:

  • Assisting the Internship Coordinator with onboarding, orientation, support, and activities for Wilson Center interns
  • Assisting in the development of strategic partnerships
  • Developing recruitment and marketing materials for internships and fellowships
  • Assisting with the annual Fellowships competition, therefore promoting the mission that lies at the heart of the Wilson Center
  • Recruiting and onboarding interns for the scholars and other program offices at the Center, under the supervision of our Intern Coordinator
  • Assisting in managing the Alumni Database
  • Providing back-up for the Wilson Center’s Library and Front Desk
  • Providing assistance in organizing Wilson Center-wide events as needed, and other duties as assigned

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, and adaptable
  • Ability to work independently and collectively as part of a group
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Interest in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace
  • Experience with graphic design/marketing preferred
  • Strong interest in international relations and public policy preferred

This internship will take place on an in-person/hybrid basis, therefore students attending universities in the Washington Metro area are highly encouraged to apply. The hours are flexible and can be conducive to a student’s full-time schedule. Possibility of extension for a second semester.

International students are eligible, but they must hold a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and appropriate work authorization. All international students must obtain written permission from their Designated School Official or Responsible Visa Officer at their university stating that they are in valid immigration status and eligible to do an internship at the Center. The Wilson Center is an equal opportunity employer and follows equal opportunity employment guidelines in the selection of its interns.
